Perseverance _ we will make Pakistan proud!

There are a lot of problems we are facing in Pakistan. When we watch news channels, read newspaper and other international reports all we can see are terrorist attacks, corruption, ethnic and border disputes, floods, illiteracy and other disasters in the country. What is our role in improving the state Pakistan is in?

There is always a positive aspect of a negative one. I believe better days are going to come soon. Pakistan is one of the bravest countries there is. Even after so many hardships our people bounce back and face the next day. We should be proud of that if nothing else. This unrelenting fountain of hope and fight to live for another day is the reason of our existence.

Where there is bloodshed in Lyari every day due to gang wars. Only the bravest souls venture there of their own accord. Despite that the polio workers go there to save the upcoming generation. Every merchant or businessman in Karachi opens his or her shop not knowing what fate may befall them that day. It is this resilience which stops the country’s biggest metropolis from becoming a ghost town.

Our borders along India are in a constant state of flux and danger. Many soldiers of our Pakistan army are killed every day but still they are fighting for us. From the coldest regions of Siachin to the deserts of Sindh, our army guards the borders with no regard to their life. Their contagious patriotism is the reason the Pakistani flag flutters atop our houses on every Independence Day.

The girls in KPK are fighting for their right to study as we speak. Malala yousafzai is a shining example of perseverance on this notion. Now as a Nobel Prize winner she continues her struggle for the education program. Being shot did not derail her from her objective, instead it strengthened it.

Pakistanis always have new hope in their hearts. They never quit and dream that one day there would be a change for better in our country. We shall fight till the end to bring peace in Pakistan. For that instead of complaining about what a poor state of affairs we have been handed, we should plan on how we could remove our ethnic and cultural differences and strive for the improved tomorrow. Pakistani Traditional Food

Hello everyone! Today I felt an urge to write about Pakistani food. Every country has its own taste and style of food. Pakistan has a rich culture. Our traditions and norms are very similar to India. Many of the recipes of our dishes are similar to them. Despite that the flavors and spices of a particular region add their own touch. Every province in Pakistan has its own special regional dishes.

Punjab is the hub of meaty and spicy food. Be it tandoori, gravies, desi ghee delicacies or vegetables (esp. sarsoon ka saag) the Punjabis are true to their roots. Though the new generation is into fast food and Chinese, you will always find the mutton gravies, parathas, haleem and Bar B.Q beside them in a buffet style dinner. Punjabis and especially Laborites are famous for their appetites of desi food.                                                          2014-11-13_22.35.12

Even their breakfasts are an elaborate affair. Halwa puri, Nehari, Hareesa, siri pai, Nan Chaney and pathoray are only some of the dishes they offer. On the other hand the list of sweet dishes also goes on and on. Rus malai, jalebi, kulfa falooda, kheer and firni are their summer offerings. Winter brings along different types of halwas, sweet rices and gajreela. Sweetmeats are an all year round treat.            2014-11-13_22.36.34

The food in KPK is influenced by their neighboring country Afghanistan. Their namkeen lamb, Afghani pulao, huge chappal kababs and dry fruits are legendary. The tikka they cook over open fires add smoky flavors to the ready items and this tradition may have originated from necessity when hunters found it hard to cook without proper stoves.

2014-11-13_22.37.36

Baluchistan on the other hand found ways to use the hot desert sands as desi ovens. Their widely known dishes Sajji and Dumpukht were once cooked over time in the hot sand. Though modernized in the hotel kitchens today, the true tradition continues in their far-fetched areas.

sajji

This brings us to Sindh which also provides us with a diverse variety of foods and flavors. Believe it or not it is from where all types of biryanies originated. Sindhi biryani, meiman biryani, pulaos, tikka biryani and so on and so forth, all came from this region. Hyderabad was the centre of the most sophisticated mughlai foods. The different types of seafood like prawns, crabs, finger fish etc. are also their forte. Now a day, other regions might claim fame but hey give credit where it’s due.

biryani

As you can see Pakistan has a vast variety of foods and cultures to offer. We only have to explore them. Now I am going off to investigate what’s cooking in my own kitchen. Happy foraging!!

The Beauty Of Pakistan

Every feature of this country be it architecture, weather or tradition has a story of its own which is worth appreciating. The northern areas of this country are spell binding. Mountains such as K-2, waterfalls, fruit and flower gardens and the traditions practiced by the northern tribes all play a part in attracting Pakistanis as well as foreigners to witness this paradise and be in awe.

The culture of all the four provinces of Pakistan is gripping and rich but the culture which is most influential is that of the Mughal dynasty with their architecture style, impressive designs are liked and appreciated by everyone who witnesses it be it the Shalimar Gardens or the Badshahi mosque. Different kinds of languages like Saraiki, Pashtu, Balochi and Punjab exist in Pakistan. Pakistan experiences the four season’s summer, winter, autumn and spring a blessing that only a few can achieve.

Pakistan is a truly amazing and blessed country and one should pay it a visit to experience the full beauty that this country has to offer.

Our Different life styles. (Do we have a free choice?)

“We Live in a society where our choice of clothing is made by the judgement others”

Remember when we were growing up we always used to talk on and on about how we wanted to become a Doctor,Army Officer or the ambitions of a few even exceeded reality where they would revel about the prospect of becoming very rich and just earning money. Well.even though that was pre pubescence, it is quite surprising that even today we aspire to achieve similar things. the main question is why? The answer lies in the way we are formed overtime. but is it really worth to compromise your children’s lifestyles just to make sure the neighbors don’t question your ways?

Set-yourself-free

We often tend to judge ourselves on the opinions of others

The roots of this cause trace back to our cultural origins, we live in a society blended with the viral epidemic of fundamentalism. if we begin to discuss examples, it would take hours to think of even the most common ones. lets for one tae the story of a common Pakistan woman. what are her original teachings? Dress well, Work on Fairness and also specializing in becoming the perfect house wives. the cause for this goes deeper than the fundamental learning. the social learning also plays a role. woman with such mentality grow up in societies saturated with”RISHTA” aunties and obnoxious mothers who make it their life dream to find the perfect husband for them. hence, in the conservative section of our society which accounts for over 95% of the population can only aspire to be good house wives. if we are exemplifying, lets not forget the men who are under peer pressure from day one to commend good purchasing power as well as good respect in the society.

The preceding examples lead to even worse paradigms, men in society fail to live up to their potential or otherwise even chase their dreams for a change. to simplify such terms, we can take the example of Farhan, an acquaintance fond of painting, in fact incredibly passionate about it. his passion lead to a direct increase in his talent and his workshops showed that he had real potential. but at the age of 27, the bomb of being a perfect citizen drop right on his shoulders. Marriage. to conclude, his marriage as well as the responsibility of taking care of a woman made it impossible for him to even buy a minute to spare for his passion.

three-afghan-refugee-women-and-their-children-walk-in-an-alley-of-a-poor-neighborhood-in-pakistan12-20-2010_7334_l_uA contrast of the difference The Lifestyle Contrast: A village near Liyari : Karachi and the High Way system near Sea Veiw : Karachi

The scenarios is same or women, but there reasons would make a feminist jump in his own grave. it is a lot impossible for a woman to pursue her dreams. her parents expect nothing less than a good husband for their daughters. even the thought of a girl, for example trying to become a model in Lahore would make the Father’s cardiac veins tingle.

We live in a society where a boy can’t even dream of chasing his passion, or even of thinking about taking it as a hobby. although it is different for some parents, here we are talking about the 5%. the percentage of upper class. they have almost a different  style. it is almost as if you enter their household you feel like you have entered an apartment in the Hampton’s. there children drive six figure cars, hangout out in the best of hotels and are pampered with a high influx of Servants.

What Islam Teaches us, What we’ve forgotten (Video Link)

Hence, the problem boils down to the conflicting natures of the 5 Percent and the 95 Percent living in the same society. however, the nature of conservatism is vanishing fast. people are adopting to secular lifestyles more and more. Hence, it is the inevitable future that the number Five Percent will increase in the future. yet, this can’t be credited to be a good thing due to the fact that this viral outspread of the upper class will only make the poor poorer. because eventually, lets face it, none of us care about the poor.we may blame the bureaucrats however we are to blame because of our lack of concern to the cause.

Hi guys! I am Ali Nawaz. I am a twenty-one year grad student out in the cyber world to make friends. I decided to blog so that people have a better insight about me and my interests which are watching movies and reading. My real passion is movies. Mostly I like thriller, comedy, action or horror movies. After watching I like to dissect it with my friends. Movies are based or adapted from books. This gave birth to my reading interest.

In my early age I started liking animation movies like Charlotte’s Web and the Wizard of Oz. I loved to see the animations and discuss with my mother. Seeing my interest my mother used to bring movies with their counterpart books. All the Harry Potter movies also entered the scene. J.K. Rowling is an excellent writer and the movies differed from her books which was quite annoying at times for me. The books “The Lord of the Rings” and Demons by Dan Brown were different from the movies as well.

I began comparing English and Indian movies which were a copy. Though some movies have done quite well others don’t even show a slightest bit of change in the story line. The recent movie Bang Bang is a 85% copy of a Tom Cruise movie. Some pick up comic scenes or action sequences but guys don’t you see the movies doing big business are not copies but originals. Movies like Avatar, Titanic and Terminator are original. Same goes for 3 Idiots, Jodha Akbar and Don.

Added to that is the fact that parodies hold much more interest to people. Take Om Shanti Om for instance which is a parody of Karz or the Hollywood success Scary Movies which make fun of all the kill trill movies. Now that is great comic stuff.Due to my knowledge, my interest in debating developed. It helped me to build confidence and adopt many special skills. I started off by joining the debating society. Debating was becoming a passion for me day by day.

Due to my knowledge, my interest in debating developed. It helped me to build confidence and adopt many special skills. I started off by joining the debating society. Debating was becoming a passion for me day by day.Recently I attended OXIMUN (Oxford International Model United Nation). This was my first and a remarkable experience. In this experience I explore many different people and places. Now I am planning for Harvard Model United Nation. I believe one day there would be change in our society if we raise our voice.

So here I am willing to discuss and shred movies and books with you and some of my experiences in life Boys and girls, this is Ali signing off.

My Inner World

As we all know it’s very difficult to express one’s self in front of people. The other person perceives you differently but coming towards myself I believe I am a simple and straight forward person. What I think about myself is that I am very fond of exploring the world. Socializing can be called my forte and my hobby as well. I welcome every type of person. Meeting people from different walks of life gives you a good insight into understanding life. Socializing is not all about going to cafes with friends or random hangout I randomly go to different educational and political program to socialize people with different class and professions. I actively participated in social awareness campaigns and work for needy people.

I love to converse with people of different cultures and beliefs and hear how they conduct their life. I can easily mingle with every kind of person and have the ability to manipulate them and get desired result with help of my experience. I came across different types of people with different mindset so it’s easy for me to have a good long conversation. Information about their thinking as you know it’s very difficult to get someone personnel thinking. I go to different places in Pakistan and in other countries too to get their lifestyle and experiences. Meeting new people is such pleasure for me and I would love to travel the world now. This characteristic of socializing has developed my interest in going to travel the world. I have met so many people that I feel like writing about them. But I believe I need to explore the world more and gain more knowledge to write about them. The more I meet people the more I want to explore more.

A Journey from Heaven to Hell

Photo 09-11-2014 06 35 36 pm

‘The people feel and look the same, like they’ve settled here even though they know there’s something more-something better-just beyond where they are’

Well it has been many years since I’ve shifted to Lahore from Islamabad. The place where I was brought up. The memories of childhood have their own kind of nostalgia. No matter if it’s the past period of a man’s life, it still is part of us. The charm of it can never be forgotten and explained. I used to be a different person. More fun, loving. The world seemed to be place of joy and happiness to me. At that moment, there was nothing to be worried about. I had friends who admired me. My friends made the college life worth it. My town left the biggest impact on me. I got a lot of my personality. As I remember I was always in somebody’s army. Never Alone! I think that was the time, I was me, myself.

Although my hometown might seem boring and confusing to anyone from the outside looking in, it makes perfect sense to me. Sitting at the foothills of Margalla mountains feels great. My town is known for its picturesque nature and peace. The most important thing about the city that I like is its lush green surroundings and clean environment. There is greenery everywhere. On the one hand it also offers visual delight which make the environment healthy. It’s the place where I felt I could be anything. But time flies, here I am well settled and doing fine with my life in LSE. It was hard in the starting but with time I managed. I was a very quiet and silent person when I came to Lahore. As I don’t open up that easily. Now, whenever I look myself in the mirror, I laugh thinking ‘The storm has passed, and I survived. Never thought I could be that strong to fight back.

isl-1

I am doing just fine in Lse now. Made friends, enjoy life. As far as my studies are concerned, I think I am a marketing person as I think I have the convincing power to make people believe what I feel. I have volunteered at various places. Specially, for Shaukat khanam twice for raising funds for people who need money for their cancer treatment. Helping needy people gives me satisfaction and makes me feel good about myself.

As part from all these, I like to do activities for myself. I am a good swimmer for which I was nominated to take part in the final competition in Sports Complex Islamabad. Yoga is another exercise that relaxes my mind and soul. I do it for my inner satisfaction. It makes me forget all the tensions for some time. I also like to write, which helps me express my opinion. I have a blog which discuss about the political instability and all problems in general which is faced by common man. I have also written a book for a course which was published. ‘Trails & Tribulations’ was the name of my book. It had different sections discussing various topics and sharing my experience. I prefer writing in my personal diary when I am alone. Traveling is another hobby of mine. Seeing each and every part of the world is so amazing. I have been to Netherland and UK. From which Netherland is beautiful where one can see lesser people whereas cows in more number. I have also seen the northern areas of Pakistan which are extremely delightful. One quality about myself, that is important to me is my passion for wanting to help animals. My fondness for Persian cats is great. Animals are the best companion and a long-lasting friend.

” Living on the edge “

Living on the edge takes nothing more than stepping out of your comfort zone and living your dreams. Unfortunately, a large portion of society struggles with this concept, for they are fearful of losing an unfounded sense of security they have found through building mental boundaries around themselves. Many people search for relief, turning to songs and blogs with messages pertaining to their troubles. Mysterious is what life seems to be and time seems too short for us to enjoy it. Most of us are often told to live life to the fullest but we were never told how to do so. As we grow, we continue to search on how we will make our life worth living. We tend to be adventurous to try to know the world and what we can do to say that our life is worth living. Life offers many challenges but through the love that I received from my family and friends, I become strong enough to face them. Love that I can receive as I live in what makes my life worth living. The opportunity to receive and share it to others really makes my life worth living. Happy moments that I spend with my loved ones also make my life worth living. So as, I’m growing up I’m doing everything that, I love to do and putting effort into it for a valuable result.

man-standing-on-edge-of-cliff

We were put on this earth to do something special with our lives and we should never take that for granted. People that do not do everything to the best of their abilities aren’t only cheating themselves, but also the others around them. because if you don’t you will missed out, so many great opportunities. If you don’t do the best you can in everything than you’ll never know how far you could have gotten. Take a sport for instance, if you don’t practice than you’ll never get any better. Yet if you do put everything you have into that sport you will become one of the best athletes in that field. You can apply that same determination to school work, your job, your marriage, pretty much anything you do in life you should do your best. Not only you will succeed in life, if you do your best, but you even will be happy with yourself.

live-edge

I give my all in everything that I do because I know that I may never get a second chance. I believe that trying my hardest in every aspect of my life will help me to be more content with the result of those things. If I try the most that I can and still don’t succeed, I still know that there is no way that I could have put forth more effort in order to alter the outcome of that situation.

Sometimes you don’t realize that how many tomorrows you may have however knowing the Importance of your life and making it count, I decided to achieve everything that I ever wished for, I believe that life should be lived on the edge to live life to its extent.

RTS — A Personified Prodigy

Life is a never ending set of countless events, interesting, boring, happy, sorrowful, passive and active as they might be, they always pass. I guess that is the very essence of life. Life has affected me in various form and aspects. A personal impression can merely cover a fragment of my experiences but I would like to share a much cherished fragment of my experiences today. In my journey so far, I have had many amazing friends, they have always been there for me. They have supported me, held me up just when I was about to fall, stayed with me when I needed someone to rely on. They offered me a shoulder when I wanted to cry, pushed me to be confident when I was too shy, and gave me a reason to live when I wanted to die. A good friend is what a true blessing is. As I like to say “Besides parents, a good friend and good food is all you need”. Saying all this, I think now would be a very good time to introduce a very special friend of mine, RTS.

We first met when I was 4. Strange as it may sound but I still vividly remember that day. I had returned home from school all sweaty and tired. As I entered the room, ready to whine out of the blue just as children at that age do, I saw her. It was magical, it was love at first sight. She was playing with my elder brother and I still remember the happiness on his face. I could tell that he too was in love with her as well. The excitement in our eyes was so genuine and pure as my mother recalls that day, she cannot resist smiling. Alas! Who could resist that allure and charm. Even strong men succumb to their emotions and feelings while we were just children. So I fell deep in love with RTS.

So began our affair. Whenever I talked to her, she responded back with the craziest excitement, we synchronized in magical ways. I understood her and she understood me perfectly. Everyone was in awe and they were happy for us. Some people did get jealous but that was just natural considering her charming personality. As I grew up, she was always there for me, helping me relax, compose myself, stay active and happy. My parents always thought of her as a strain on my studies, they said that she was taking too much of my time, that I shouldn’t spend more time with her. But I loved her too much, I couldn’t resist her and staying away from her even for a day was not in my control.

I remember that trip to Murree when my parents forced me to go with them. She said that she couldn’t come with me. I understood her reasons but I can still feel the pain of parting with her that day. Then I was off to Murree, those long days and sleepless nights. I missed her like crazy and I am sure she missed me too. God those four days felt like a year. But eventually we did get back together. How we celebrated that reunion. Those get togethers and all nighters were indeed special.

But as time passed, college happened and I could not give her the time I used to give her before. My intentions towards her were as pure and innocent as before but she started acting somewhat passively. We could not chat and have fun because of the workload college life has to offer. But I remember going to her sometimes alone at night and making promises to give her more time, my undivided attention and what not. So she came back to me. That was no less than a miracle and we became happy once more sharing the moments of life.

Then University happened, and with it came the pressure and responsibilities like never before. When I was with her I could not focus on my studies and when I was studying, all I could think of was her. It went on a while, me being stuck in the no man’s land. Then one day my mother came to me, telling me I had to either balance it out or to let her go. And I listened to her, after two years in University, I finally found a balance. It did come with a heavy price but that’s the price I had to pay. I only see her at weekends now but wherever I see her, it still makes my day. I still wish I could spend more time with her. I loved her, I still love her and always will. She is RTS (Real Time Strategy Game).

Utopian Addict

Our lives are full of new experiences every single day. It is filled with the highs and the lows, grief and sorrows but mostly joyous occasions. An ability that is greatly enhanced through the various experiences of one’s life is his creativity. Every single human being views life in new ways or from a completely different perspective. They have been blessed with a unique ability to develop new objects or new ideas. This is when a person is said to be “creative.” Due to creativity individuals are unique in their thoughts, actions and behavior. If a person has ideas but does not act upon them, then he is called imaginative but not creative. Creative people are full of energy and full of wonder who think outside the box. A person with the least of the resources, I would say has the greatest possibility of being creative. This plays a major role in developing a person’s personality.

creativity

As I walk down the memory lane I see myself as an introvert who has never wanted to face the world. This might be bit cruel for me myself but unfortunately it is quite true. I always portrayed myself as a hero for all generations to come just like Superman and Batman with a world full evil all around me but just in a room. I called my room an ‘Imaginary box,’ where I could lie down easily and plan on how to save the world. Too proud even to watch the super hero cartoons and I being a mature child always believed that heroes lived in us. They just needed to be exposed at the right time. I remember having sleepless nights due to continuous planning on how to save my school or the president of our country in order to save him from a terrorist attack. The common path in all the plans was usually an underground tunnel. I am sure you would be finding this quite dumb and funny as you read along but was how I was. I can proudly say ‘not anymore.’

SupermanJLBColorWeb

Living in my own Utopian world with my door always locked far away from the world and its people I could easily ignore the reality. This was where I was just an ordinary child who used to crave for ice cream and chocolates. There was something in my mind that made me believe that I am the greatest and could surpass all mankind. To this day I still am finding that narrow underground tunnel for the urge to achieve greatness. One never knows what the next step might bring yo you.
